The process can take up to six months to complete. This may be expedited in situations where you have participated in some steps previously or have a recent CPAT certificate from another jurisdiction.

Yes, we are approved to offer the GI Bill® educational benefits by the Virginia State Approving Agency for completing our recruit school.
We receive applications from the previous month in the first week of the month. You should be contacted shortly after that with next steps for the written test.
The full academy is 26 weeks. Recruits work Monday – Thursday, 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and are off Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Some training will take place at night, which recruits will know about in advance.
The LCFR work schedule is equivalent to about 48 hours per week.
LCFR operates on a 24-hour rotation. Members work 24 hours on (6:00 a.m. - 6:00 a.m. the following day), followed by 48 hours off. Whenever their shift falls on their assigned "Kelly Day" (occurs once every seven shifts), they are given the day off. Kelly days are assigned for a two-year period, then re-bid based on seniority.
